VS. poem

VS.

Florescent, fluffy, smiley face, pillow, bright pink VS. Emo, black hoody, chains, spikes, slit wrists

White, halos, wings, glowing, flying to the light, sky VS. Pointy horns, spike tail, trident, evil, fire powers

Heavy, explosive, timing, small or big, hard, damage VS. Fluffy, hit in face and won’t hurt, big, different colors, soft, super comfy

Rich, filling, brown, crumbly, hard, smooth, sweet, yummy VS. Smells good, taste good or bad, white icing, slippery, liquid

Un-dead, never dead, always living, never changing VS. Scared of death, always dying, growing really old.

"The Negro Speaks of Rivers"

This poem is called “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” By: Langston Hughes. The poem is about a black man who knows rivers very well and is very connected to rivers. He seems to be saying that rivers have become a part of him. The person who is telling this is a black man.
This poem has a lot of imagery. “…I’ve seen its muddy bosom turn all golden in the sunset” It has a few metaphors. “Ancient, dusky rivers” and this poem is free verse all the way. It all fits very well but has no rhyming. It still has a flow so it all fits together though.
This poem is happy and has words that make you want to experience it. I have had the connection with rivers that some haven’t, so it seems that I understand and correspond with this poem and it brings memories.
